Gun 9 was a broadside gun on the starboard of the Virginia, near the stern.
Capt. R. T. Thom (Marine Corps) was at guns 8 and 9
Captain Kevil, United Artillery was at gun 9
Either #9 or #7 had its chase (barrel) blown off at the trunions. That one was a IX-inch Dahlgren.
