It is my understanding that across the Confederacy, and at Norfolk; that volunteer fire department horse and pumper teams; man and beast, were used as field, horse-drawn light artillery. It is my understanding that many of the CSS Virginia's gunners were taken from Army field artillery at Yorktown, Virginia? Thusossibly some of the Yorktown CSA artillerymen, were used as CSS Virginia gunners? And that some of these gunners so used, might be Norfolk volunteer firemen?
