Charles, I think your information is quite interesting, although, as we know we have to approach many of these claims with some degree of caution. I have come across at least two others, whose names could not be located on the rosters (see my web sites on Samuel Risien, and Brady), but who claimed to have served aboard the CSS VIRGINIA.
As Mabry has indicated, these rosters were also not complete, and much is missing from the history of the Confederate Navy, due to the destruction after the war of many important records. However, we should remember that some of these claims, although they have been embellished, have some basis in fact, and thus, you should attempt to find other means of locating the service details of Wilford. There are many other avenues of research that may yield further details, if one knows where to search.
Although his name is not on the rosters in the ORN, I would like to add his name and details, with your permission, please, so my growing CSN and CSMC database of personnel. I have not updated the Internet version for quite a while, but the file on my desktop has been updated quite a bit. I will eventually find time to update the Internet version. I have to thank people like yourself who keep supplying me with the details that help to improve the database.
