If you use the Search facility on the left, and put "Palmetto State" (with the quotes) into the second Google search (that searches Civil War Naval sites), you will get a few hits. The CSNAVY.ORG site describes that the Palmetto State was destroyed by the Confederates when Charleston was evacuated in 1865. (http://www.csnavy.org/porter,list.htm)

I also checked DANFS (http://www.hazegray.org/danfs/csn/) and it indicates that the Chicora was also destroyed by the Confederates when Charleston was evacuated.

The Weehawken is in DANFS at
http://www.hazegray.org/danfs/monitors/weehawke.htm
but it makes no mention of that raft nor of Ericsson.

I found this link
http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/usnsh-w/wehawkn.htm
which has an image described as
"The Ericsson Devil and 'Weehawken'"

Engraving published in "Harper's Weekly", January-June 1863, depicting USS Weehawken pushing the mine-clearing raft designed by John Ericsson for use in Charleston harbor, South Carolina.
