Mark Catesby was a famed naturalist in the 1700s, rivaling Audubon (who came a century later). He published the two volume Natural
history of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands (1731-43).

King Richard III's squire William Catesby was the one who responded to King Richard's "A horse. A horse. My Kingdom for a horse." in Shakespeare's "Tragedy of King Richard III." based on Thomas More's History of Richard III. See this history.
